Hey there, digital nomads! Do you dream of working remotely from a charming European city filled with delicious food, stunning views, and a relaxed atmosphere? Look no further than Porto, Portugal! We spent the month of February living and working remotely in this amazing city, and it was incredible. Now, we’re here to spill the beans on our favorite spots to work, eat, and explore. Here’s your ultimate guide to help you thrive as a digital nomad in Porto:
Why Porto?
- Live, Work, Relax: Porto offers the perfect trifecta for digital nomads. It’s a safe city with a laid-back vibe, tons of trendy cafes with Wi-Fi for getting work done, and a growing digital nomad community.
- Fuel Your Hustle: Whether you crave a dedicated workspace or a social buzz, Porto has you covered. Need to crank out a project? Plug into productivity at Selina Porto, a reputable coworking space with a modern vibe. Feeling inspired by a lively atmosphere? Many cafes, like our favorite Honest Greens, offer strong Wi-Fi and a beautiful environment to get your creative juices flowing. Plus, cafes are a great spot to collaborate with fellow remote workers.
- Walkable City: Forget the hassle of public transport! Porto is compact and easily explored on foot. This means more time for delicious meals, discovering hidden gems, and enjoying the ever-changing scenery. Plus, you’ll never get bored with the seemingly endless restaurant options.
Must-Visit Spots:
- Douro River Stroll: Take a leisurely walk along the stunning Douro River for breathtaking views. Here’s an insider tip: head to the top of the bridge for an unforgettable panorama of the city (it’s the featured photo on this post!).
- Base Porto: When it’s time to unwind after a productive day, head to Base Porto, a delightful beer garden by the Torre dos Clérigos. It’s the perfect spot to relax in the sunshine and socialize with fellow digital nomads.
- Live Like a Local: When it comes to finding your home base in Porto, charm is in no short supply! Consider Ribeira, a historic waterfront district with colorful houses and a lively atmosphere. Or, if you prefer a quieter scene, the area near the Torre dos Clérigos offers a beautiful backdrop and convenient access to the city center. We lived by the tower ourselves and loved being a 10-minute walk from everything Porto has to offer!
Food & Drink:
- Porto Augusto’s Winery: Raise a glass to a successful remote work stint with a visit to Porto Augusto’s winery across the river. They have some of the best port wine in town! We recommend their wine tasting for an authentic local experience.
- Honest Greens: Looking for healthy fuel for your body and mind? Look no further than Honest Greens! Their cafes offer delicious food and a great work atmosphere – their salmon plate is legendary (trust us!). They also have shops in Lisbon and other cities across Portugal.
- Kind Kitchen: Calling all vegans! Kind Kitchen offers mouthwatering plant-based dishes at fantastic prices – your taste buds (and wallet) will thank you!
- Tapabento S.Bento: Embark on a tapas adventure at Tapabento S.Bento. It’s the perfect way to experience a variety of delicious Portuguese flavors, and is best experienced with a large group!
- Manteigaria: Experience a true Portuguese pastry – the Pasteis de Nata – at Manteigaria. They’re our favourite! You can find these shops all over Portugal.
