- Victoria – Finlayson Point: Kick off your island adventure in Victoria, the capital city! Head to Finlayson Point for stunning panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, especially at sunset. Keep your eyes peeled for whales and sea lions basking in the sun!
- Sooke – Whiffin Spit: Soak up the sun at Whiffin Spit, a sandy beach located near Sooke. This family-friendly beach is perfect for building sandcastles, picnicking, or simply relaxing with a good book.
- Lake Cowichan – Youbou: Venture further inland to discover the natural beauty of Lake Cowichan. Explore the charming town of Youbou, nestled on the shores of the lake, and rent a kayak or canoe to explore the calm waters. Keep your eyes peeled for caribou wandering through the surrounding forests!
- Tofino – Frank Island: 🪸 Tofino is a surfer’s paradise, but even landlubbers will be mesmerized by the beauty of Frank Island, accessible only at low tide. Explore the rugged coastline, witness abundant marine life in the tidal pools, and snap a photo before the tide comes in.
- Cameron Lake – Angel Rock Drive: Take a scenic road trip along Angel Rock Drive, a winding route that hugs the shores of Cameron Lake. This freshwater paradise is surrounded by lush forests, perfect for a picnic or a refreshing dip. Look out for the giant stone sculpture of an angel overlooking the lake – it’s a truly unique sight!
- Cathedral Grove – Hike through Canada’s Oldest Trees: Step back in time at Cathedral Grove, a mystical forest teeming with towering ancient Douglas firs. Some of these giants are over 800 years old, their massive trunks reaching towards the sky. It’s a humbling experience to walk amongst these living legends.
- Qualicum Beach – Whale Watching Paradise!: Qualicum Beach is a renowned whale watching destination, and for good reason. We were lucky enough to witness a humpback whale and orcas breaching the waves – an unforgettable experience!
- Nanoose Bay & Dolphin Beach: Looking for a charming seaside escape? Nanoose Bay offers sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and a relaxed atmosphere. Head to Dolphin Beach for a chance to spot playful pods of seals and dolphins frolicking in the waves – you might even get a lucky photo!
- Nanaimo – Neck Point Park: Nanaimo, famous for its namesake desert bars, also boasts stunning natural beauty. Neck Point Park offers dramatic cliffs overlooking the Salish Sea, perfect for capturing fiery sunsets or spotting majestic eagles soaring through the sky.
- Campbell River – Elk Falls: We saved my favourite for last! Campbell River boasts the mighty Elk Falls, a cascading marvel surrounded by lush greenery. Feel the spray on your face as you stand at the base of the falls, or take a short hike to the viewing platform for a breathtaking panorama.
